About our Workshops:
All workshops are taught using Prophoto equipment.
HSS workshops are sponsored by Houston Camera Exchange.
All HSS workshops are educational events, not group shoots.
Models are provided for every workshop.
Lighting skills workshops are about 50/50 discussion to shooting. Content development workshops are about 40/60 or 30/70 discussion to shooting.
We meter lighting for ISO 100. Cameras that do not have ISO 100 will be accommodated with alternate metering.
We use radio triggers for connecting the camera to the strobes. Your camera must have a hot shoe or a PC connection in order to use the radios.


Instructors:
Bob Warren
Bob Warren is a photographer with 30 years experience. Currently he shoots with digital cameras, but has used everything from 35mm to 4x5. Bob also teaches digital photography at Houston Center for Photography.
Bobby Gilbert
Bobby Gilbert is a glamour photographer with magazine and publication experience. He teaches regularly at photography workshops around the country and currently shoots with Canon digital cameras.
Jerry Brown
Starting his photography in the 1950's, Jerry was a chrome photographer until 2003 when he made the conversion to digital. He is a commercial photographer and has been part of HSS since his move to Houston in 2007. Jerry's love is glamour photography - he delights in making beautiful women more beautiful. He's also a published commercial photographer with advertising credits in national publications.
Ron Davis
Ron Davis has appeared in televised photography competitions, been published in a national fashion magazine and produced from concept to completion the "2007 Goth Swimsuit Calendar." Currently he shoots with Fuji digital cameras.

Portrait Lighting

This workshop is designed to demonstrate the basic equipment and techniques for lighting a portrait with studio strobes. The workshop's focus is capturing a portrait using studio strobes. The course builds on the basic lighting course offered at Houston Skyline Studio. Every participant will get the opportunity to shoot with the studio equipment and take home images that they can review later. Bring a camera that has a hot-shoe or pc connection and ISO 100 film or equivalent. A model will be provided for the shooting portion of the workshop.

This workshop is covers a series of techniques like balancing daylight and strobes, designed to expand the participant's use of studio strobes. The course builds on the basic lighting course offered at Houston Skyline Studio. Every participant will get the opportunity to shoot with the studio equipment and take home images that they can review later. Bring a camera that has a hot-shoe or pc connection and ISO 100 film or equivalent. A model will be provided for the shooting portion of the workshop.

Lighting the Nude Figure

This workshop is designed to teach the basics of photographing the nude figure using studio lighting. The course will be in two parts. The first part will be an instructor-led discussion of the creative influences around how and why we photograph the figure nude, and what lighting techniques help fulfill these goals. The second part of the workshop will cover a hands-on demonstration of typical lighting set ups for figure photography. The instructor will demonstrate the equipment and techniques for lighting the nude with studio strobes. An experienced figure model will be provided for the class. Every participant will get the opportunity to shoot with the model and take home images that they can review later. The course is more advanced and will build on the previous lighting workshops.

This workshop is designed to demonstrate the basic equipment and techniques for lighting with studio strobes. The workshop will cover a hands-on demonstration of the use of studio strobes. The course is very basic, for photographers that have never used studio strobes and want to understand the basics of using the equipment.
